Bahrain’s Catholic community was shocked yesterday after learning of the sad demise of Bishop Camillo Ballin, MCCJ. Bishop Camillo was the Apostolic Vicar of Northern Arabia (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia). He passed away on Sunday night at the Comboni Generalate in Rome.

Bishop Camillo had been suffering from lung cancer and was under treatment in Italy. He was 75 years old, a priest for 51 years and a bishop for 14 years. Catholics in Bahrain and all over the world who knew Bishop Camillo posted countless tributes on social media in his honour.

Bishop Camillo was born on June 24, 1944, in Fontaniva, Padua, Italy to his parents Lucia and Angelo. He was ordained Priest of the MCCJ (Missionarii Comboniani Cordis Iesu), or Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus in English, in March of 1969. He was consecrated Bishop in September 2005.
