Shura Council holds first-ever session remotely

TDT | Manama

The Shura Council held yesterday its first-ever remote session, in line with precautionary measures to help curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Only a few individuals were physically present at the meeting, including Shura Council chairman Ali Al Saleh, first deputy chairman Jamal Mohamed Abdulrahman Fakhroo, second deputy chairman Jameela Ali Salman, secretary-general Councilor Osama Ahmed Al Asfour, and a number of employees.

The other Shura Council members and government representatives attended the session remotely from their offices or homes. At the beginning of the session, Al Saleh was keen to confirm that the session was a historic one, noting at the same time, the constitutionality and legality of the session.

Al Saleh also revealed that all members participated in the session, with no absences. The remote session was a first for the Shura Council, ever since its inception in 2002.
