Inmates to benefit from video-call services

TDT | Manama

Video-call services for inmates and their families have been launched at Reformation and Rehabilitation Centres. This follows the suspension of visits, and it is being done for the inmates’ safety. The Reformation and Rehabilitation director-general has asserted that this move is a part of the implementation of the directives of the Interior Minister to reinforce precautionary measures against the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The director-general said that the department is dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare for all inmates. This includes the tests that were carried for 1,486 of them that were covered in the royal pardon and the alternative penalties, in which all their coronavirus test results were negative.

He highlighted that all the buildings and facilities of the Reformation and Rehabilitation Centres are cleaned and disinfected daily. At the same time, inmates are provided with medical requirements and hygiene tools for their safety.

He noted the availability of temperature measuring devices at all shifts, as the temperature of anyone who enters the centre is taken and he gets the required tools, such as gloves, sanitisers and masks.

Meanwhile, new inmates are tested and kept in a separate building for 14 days before being tested for coronavirus again, to ensure that they are free from any diseases and could join other inmates.
