Commerce ministry intensifying inspections

TDT | Manama

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism announced intensifying field inspections to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

“The ministry is carrying out inspections to implement the decisions of the Executive Committee to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus,” said Abdulaziz Al Ashraf, the Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Resources. The ministry, he said, in going forward, will also widen its areas of inspection as well as hours.

As of now, seventy volunteers are working for the ministry. “They were provided with the necessary tools to emphasise social distancing and wearing masks in stores and markets.” The voluntaries, Al Ashraf said, are trained to make “decisions related to the closing of shops and adherence to food delivery and orders.” Work is also underway to monitor markets to ensure that vegetables and fruits are sold at normal rates, and traders do not refrain from selling them.
