Bahrain to get new Indian Ambassador

TDT | Manama

Bahrain will soon get its new Indian Ambassador after the position has been left vacant for nearly three months, sources said. Experienced foreign service official Piyush Srivastava is reported to be taking on the role.

The previous Indian Ambassador to Bahrain, Alok Kumar Sinha, retired on January 30 of this year. Since then, Indians in the Kingdom have been looking forward to a new appointment, especially with the ongoing situation involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to sources, Srivastava is expected to arrive soon. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998 and is presently working as Joint Secretary (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation [BIMSTEC] and South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation [SAARC]) at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

He had earlier served in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran, and also had senior positions at the Indian embassies in Germany, Bhutan, Nepal and the Indian High Commission in Ghana in different wings, including political, commercial and economic cooperation, and information and media, to name a few.

Srivastava has rich experience and knowledge of India’s foreign ties and economic diplomacy. He holds a Master of Technology in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur.
