Ramadan moon sighting committee to convene on Wednesday evening

The Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs said that it would receive testimonies about the sighting of the new moon in Bahrain or news about it from the Islamic world on Wednesday evening.

The sighting will mark the start of the holy month of Ramadan during which adult Muslims abstain from eating any food, drinking any liquids and smoking cigarettes from dawn to sunset.

Ramadan is the ninth month on the lunar-based Islamic calendar. Its start and end are determined in Bahrain and in most Muslim countries by sighting the moon. The month lasts 29 or 30 days.
