Deputy Prime Minister His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa stressed yesterday the importance of developing the organisational structure of the Ministry of Education, as it establishes an advanced stage in boosting quality education in Bahrain.

The strategy, as a pillar of the process of developing education and training, serves educational achievements and the development of educational services, HH Shaikh Mohammed, the Supreme Council for the Development of Education and Training head, said at the council’s meeting.

They discussed the final report submitted by the consultancy company commissioned with improving the Education Ministry’s structure. The company presented details and proposals to enhance the ministry’s work, boost its efficiency, develop educational policies, and manage the educational processes within schools.

The strategy emphasised the need for the separation of capabilities in accordance with international best practices in this field, and for a focus on quality work for each sector, according to job descriptions and detailed tasks.

It also highlighted the significance of developing the educational infrastructure, improving the capacities of teachers and administrative staff, and creating an environment and culture that ensures the sustainability of the improvement process through the launch of 17 initiatives.

Working groups should be set up within the Education Ministry to prepare the transition to the new structure and their work should be followed up by the project management office, the steering committee and ultimately, the council.

The council approved the strategy and called for its implementation. The council was briefed on the output of the work teams concerned with implementing the post-high school education strategy.

Proposals and recommendations include governance and leadership initiatives, the employment skills portal, the development of labour market skills, the University of Bahrain, and the establishment of a council for postschool education in addition to laws and regulations.

HH Shaikh Mohammed called for the preparation of the executive plans for the endorsed policies and recommendations, and their presentation at the council’s next meeting in preparation for the implementation of the strategy.
