Bahrain reviews cooperation with IAEA to tackle COVID-19

The possible cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in tackling the coronavirus (COVID-19) was reviewed in a meeting of the National Committee on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons Development, Production, Use and Stockpiling and their Destruction. The virtual conference was headed by Foreign Affairs Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa.
The committee also discussed the possibility of providing technical and practical support by the IAEA to member states through the provision of the necessary equipment and training courses for workers in this field.
The committee reviewed the implementation plan for the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which will be followed next year. It followed up on its projects, including chemical weapons agreements and the chemical weapons scientific research award which was postponed until next year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The committee discussed its annual agenda and agreed to postpone all events, meetings and workshops scheduled for the upcoming period until further notice.
