RCM donates hemodialysis device to sickle cell patients

The Rotary Club of Manama (RCM) recently donated a blood exchange dialysis (hemodialysis) device to help Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients who are admitted in the Hereditary Blood Disorder Center at Salmaniya Medical Center.
A special ceremony was held on the occasion, in which a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between RCM and the Bahrain Society for SCD Patients Care, in the presence of RCM and society members.
The MoU was signed by RCM president Khalid Mukhtar, RCM past president Abdul Hussain Dawani and society president Zakariya Al Kadhem. Mukhtar thanked Dawani for fully sponsoring the device on behalf of RCM, with the aim of alleviating the agony of SCD patients who are also suffering from renal diseases.
The RCM president further explained that the installation of the device in the centre would spare patients the suffering of being shifted to the artificial kidney unit in the hospital to undergo the dialysis process, which is required multiple times in a week for renal failure patients, and to reduce their contact with other patients while taking into consideration the frail immune system of those with SCD.
“This donation comes within the core of our responsibilities at RCM to help patients and assist institutions, individuals and NGOs supporting them,” Mukhtar added.
“This includes patients suffering from cancer, SCD and chronic diseases, among other diseases.” For his part, Al Kadhem expressed thanks and appreciation to RCM for the generous donation, which he said reflects a benevolent and humane gesture and strengthens social bonds and cohesion between the different segments of the Bahraini society.
