Indian embassy begins repatriation efforts

TDT | Manama

The Indian Embassy in Bahrain has started accepting details of citizens who are willing to return to India on payment basis. The move, however, does not mean the resumption of passenger flights to India, the embassy confirmed.

“At this stage, the purpose is only to compile information,” the embassy statement said. “No decision has been taken with regards to the resumption of flights to India.” Regarding flight resumption, the embassy further clarified that it will make an announcement “as and when a decision is taken.” To register, use this link (https://forms.gle/FCWAxcy2JsUtzY3L6) or log on to the embassy website https://eoi.gov. in/bahrain/.

The link will take you to a page for ‘Data Collection Form for Repatriation’ to fill details. To enter details of family members, use separate forms. “The purpose of this form is only for the collection of information,” the embassy said. The statement also said that the “repatriation will be available only for compelling circumstances, against payment and subject to COVID-19 restrictions”. Indian nationals who are facing compelling reasons due to job losses and financial constraints like short term tourist visa holders, medical emergency, pregnancy besides students will be considered for repatriation.

Upon arrival in India, the passengers are required to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine on their own expense as per the protocols of the Government of India. Evacuation, reportedly, will be based on a green signal from the state governments to provide quarantine facilities. The evacuation, according to the latest reports, will be made in two phases. The first phase, focusing on 24 countries in the Gulf, Southeast Asia and Europe, is expected to start next month.

The second phase of the repatriation could involve citizens stranded in the United States, UK, Iran and other countries, according to ET. The evacuation efforts will continue until June. Indian nationals are also being advised to obtain certificates stating that there are not COVID-19 positive. Most of the evacuation from Gulf will be through special commercial flights, while the plans are also progressing to involve Naval vessels.
