Gulf national gets one-year jail for assaulting cop
TDT | Manama
The First High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a Gulf national to one-year imprisonment and fined BD100 for assaulting a Public Security officer earlier this year. Court files show that the incident took place on January 2 earlier this year in the Capital Governorate, where the defendant verbally and physically assaulted the policeman.
Investigations confirmed that the defendant was under the influence of alcohol and was creating chaos at the bus terminal in Manama on the day of the incident. The matter was reported to the nearby Naim Police Station and a police patrol headed to the spot.
The drunk man was yelling at the terminal and resisted arrest. When the officer managed to convince him to enter the police patrol vehicle, the defendant suddenly punched him in the nose, causing the injuries mentioned in the medical report.
The chaotic man also verbally assaulted the policemen while on their way to the police station. He was referred to the Public Prosecution the next day, where he was charged with verbal and physical assault of an on-duty public servant because of performing his duties.
