Bahrain’s Ministry of Labour announced completing 15 thousand and 529 transactions in the past two months for providing financial assistance to the citizens here, said a top ministry official.

The transactions were made during the period from 18 March to end April 2020, as the Coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions kicked in, said Director of Social Assistance at the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, Sahar Rashid Al Mannai.

Social security services, financial support services, disability allowance, and compensation for housing fires were distributed online among others in a bid to ensure social distancing measures to curb the spread of the virus in the Kingdom.

“As transactions could be done 24 hours electronically, it helped the department as well as citizens in limiting the spread of COVID-19,” Al Mannai said pointing to the possibility of using the same for all social services provided by the department.

During the period, the authority said it handled 10,209 phone calls, 4807 emails, 2339 hotline calls, 111 social media communications and 402 incidents that required personal attendance. Remote services were activated during mid-March.

Directions for availing the ministry’s services are available on the authority’s official social media accounts as well as on website www.mlsd.gov.bh. The toll-free hotline number is 80008001.
