Bahraini sentenced for attacking policemen
In a case of repeated offence, a Bahraini national was sentence to one year in prison yesterday.
The second crime was apparently committed to escape punishment for the first offence.
The accused was earlier convicted by a Bahraini court of issuing a dud cheque.
In the second case, the accused is alleged to have attacked policemen, when they came to arrest him.
“We knocked his house’s door, but he didn’t come out. We stayed near his house, waiting to arrest him when he appears. But suddenly at about 2 am, he emerged out of the garage and started hurling insults at us,” said one of the victims in his statement.
“He also badmouthed the government, and the head of the Central Governorate Police Directorate,” he added.
As police tried to corner him, the convict got violent with rage and punched a police officer in his eye before pushing another one against the wall.
It’s worth to note a High Criminal Court had earlier decided to withdraw from considering this case, citing “embarrassment.”
Upon commencement of trial, it was claimed the judge was an ex-classmate of the defendant.
The court felt “unease” over it and the case was moved to the Supreme Judicial Council.
The case was reportedly moved when it was a just a few hearings away from announcing its verdict.
