School re-opening dates not final; ministry ready for all situations: Education Ministry

Manama

The dates for re-opening of the public schools for the 2020-2021 academic year are not final, the Ministry of Education has said.

This week, the ministry said that students would go back to classes on September 16 while staff would report to work on September 6.

"The dates published this week are based on the calendar posted on the ministry's website since the start of this year," Fawaz Al Sherooqi, the head of public relations and media, said.

"The only change was that the date when the school administrative, teaching and technical staff resume was changed from September 1 to September 6 for reasons related to completing the maintenance works of several schools."

The exact dates when schools re-open will not be decided by the education ministry only, and it will depend on the coronavirus situation, he added.

"In all cases, education and learning will continue, be it through regular in-person classes or remotely, especially that the ministry has achieved outstanding successes in virtual education throughout the second semester," he said.

"Preparations for remote education are well underway and the ministry specialists are working on completing all the courses for the first semester of the next academic year."
