A Bahraini man was sentenced yesterday by the Fourth Minor Criminal Court to three months in jail and to pay a fine of BD720 for reckless driving. The 20-year-old defendant was arrested on May 28, a few days after he was seen performing dangerous stunts with his vehicle in broad daylight on Budaiya Highway—one of the busiest roads in the Kingdom.

The court also ordered to suspend the man’s driving license after finding him guilty of reckless driving and risking lives and property. The Interior Ministry confirmed the man’s arrest in a tweet, mentioning that he had performed stunts on the highway near Al Qadam village. The Ministry also posted a picture of the man’s impounded vehicle.

Quoting the General Directorate of Traffic, the tweet mentioned that “the person risked his life and others” and that “the necessary legal proceedings are continued”. On May 30, Traffic Prosecution deputy chief prosecutor Bader Al Hassan stated that the Public Prosecution has initiated its investigations into the incident, mentioning that he had put lives and properties in danger.

Al Hassan explained that the defendant drove his vehicle without registration plates on and performed dangerous stunts by drifting around Budaiya Roundabout and driving it in circles in a dangerous manner. “The defendant confessed to the charges against him in the interrogation of the Public Prosecution after he was faced with the footage,” Al Hassan stated previously
