Parks, gardens in Muharraq go private
TDT | Manama
The development works of parks and garden in the Muharraq governorate will continue as planned with the private partnership, the Municipality has said. Improvement and maintenance works are ongoing at five parks, including Prince Khalifa Park, with private sector partnership. Contractors selected through public tenders are responsible for operating and maintaining the facilities.
Operations of the Prince Khalifa Park, awarded to Bahraini contractor, will start in July 2020, in time for the widely popular Dino fest. The festival, which attracts four-time the usual visitors, takes place between December and February last. Reopening works are also ongoing at Al Hidd Park (Hatem Al Taie).
The park will reopen by end August after improvement works of stadiums, artificial turf, bathrooms and establishing a cafeteria. Officials said around 65 per cent of the works are done at yet another location in the governorate. The park will reopen in July after installing security cameras, painting concrete chairs, toys and rooms.
Arad Garden Complex 244 works were awarded three months ago and are expecting a September opening. Works are ongoing to expand stadiums, install artificial turf, repair cafeteria and garden pools. Galali Garden maintenance works are set to finish in September. Officials said the current contracts are part of a pilot project to assess the success of private sector participation in projects like this.
