The Court of Cassation yesterday upheld the death sentence previously issued against a Bahraini man who is convicted of killing a policeman in Damistan village in the Northern Governorate in 2014. The announced verdict is the final decision of the court, after the convict earlier appealed twice.
The details of the case showed that the man was responsible for the death of a police officer and injuring an elderly citizen in separate explosions that occurred in the village six years ago. The appellant is part of 23 defendants convicted of the killing of the policeman and the citizen, in addition to using and possessing firearms serving terrorist purposes, fundraising for terrorist groups, rioting, participating in illegal gatherings, and possessing Molotov cocktails.
The court previously sentenced him to death and citizenship revocation, while other defendants received similar tough punishments, including life in prison. As reported earlier, the incidents took place on December 8, 2014, when the defendants placed bombs in Damistan and Karzakan villages near Hamad Town in the Northern Governorate, causing the death of policeman Ali Mohammed Ali in Damistan and a 72-year-old citizen in Karzakan, in addition to injuring other policemen and civilians.
Both explosives were remotely detonated using cellular phones, as shown by the official investigations. Those led to the arrest of the group members, who were mostly from Damistan village.
