Six ‘Al Ashtar’ members lose final plea

Six Bahraini defendants who were previously convicted of forming and joining the “Al Ashtar Brigades”, an infamous Iran-backed terrorist group, lost their final appeals yesterday. This came as the Court of Cassation upheld the sentences previously issued against them by the Fourth High Criminal Court, which sentenced them to 10 years of imprisonment and to pay fines ranging from BD500 to BD100,000.
They also got their Bahraini citizenships revoked by a court order. The defendants previously appealed the verdicts before the Supreme Court of Appeals, which rejected their plea and upheld the sentences. They were convicted of training on the manufacturing, possessing and storing of explosive devices, in addition to forming and joining the group, which is designated as a terrorist faction by GCC states and the US.
It is worth noting that “Al Ashtar Brigades” were responsible for a series of terrorist attacks in Bahrain, which resulted in several casualties and injuries amongst policemen and civilians, besides thousands of Bahraini Dinars in property damage.
