TDT | Manama

A joint-team from the Southern Governorate, the General Directorate of Civil Defence, the Southern Governorate Police Directorate, the Southern Area Municipality, and the Electricity and Water Authority has conducted a series of field visits to correct the conditions of a number of shared housing accommodations of expatriate labour workers in the governorate.

These visits are within the framework of the Southern Governorate’s efforts to strengthen the precautionary and preventive measures being taken to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in the interest of the follow-up of Southern Governor His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa on reducing the intensity of labour accommodations in residential areas.

A total of 691 shared housing units were identified, with 388 of them being notified to correct their conditions and 215 of them in the process of doing so. Electricity supply has also been cut from 12 of the accommodations which have been found to be in violation of safety requirements set by the authorities.

Southern Governorate Engineering and Investment director Eng. Khaled Abddul Latif Haji indicated that the governorate is continuing such field visits to ensure that security and safety standards are being followed within these accommodations.
