Rampant drug peddling: Prison, fine for offenders
The High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced a Pakistani national accused of drug peddling to 10 years behind bars.
The illicit activities of the accused surfaced after police received a tip off.
He was tricked into a trap by an undercover agent who contacted him to buy BD400 worth of heroine.
The Pakistani national requested the agent to come to Riffa to receive the unlawful drugs.
Police prepared themselves for the catch by hiding near the agreed place of meeting.
As the accused handed over the drugs to the agent, the latter signaled the hiding policemen, who caught him red-handed.
The accused wasn’t just caught peddling, but also was tested positive for morphine.
During questioning, however, he denied peddling, stating he was in Riffa to hand over some money to a co-worker to get a visa for his wife.
Judges at the High Criminal Court have also fined the accused BD5000 for his crimes.
He will also be deported on completing his jail time.
Another drug case
In a separate case, a Bahraini drug peddler was given ten years behind bars by the High Criminal Court and also fined him BD5000.
A second accused was implicated in the same case, but the court gave him only three years in jail on the same charges owing his role in helping police to capture the first defendant.
The latter was captured after his co-accused reported to police about his activities during questioning.
The second accused was nabbed after accepting to sell drugs to an officer in plain clothes.
But he later offered help to police to capture the first accused who was supplying drugs to him.
