Weapons smuggling

The prosecution has completed its investigation into a case related to the seizure of explosive materials, weapons and ammunition in the sea during an attempt to smuggle them into Bahrain, said President of the Terror Crime Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al- Hammadi.

Eight suspects, including five in custody, have been referred to the High Criminal Court for trial on November 11. They are facing charges of exchanging intelligence information, setting up a terror cell and joining it, training in using weapons and explosives and smuggling weapons and ammunition via the sea.

The public prosecution received a notice from the Criminal Investigation Directorate (CID) that a terror group was formed in Bahrain and it took charge of smuggling weapons and explosives by the sea to use them in terrorist acts in the Kingdom.

The group received military training in Iran on using weapons and explosives and smuggling them by boat. The Bahraini authorities were able to arrest the suspects on July 15 and subsequently five out of the eight other suspects. They have admitted to the charges levelled against them.

The public prosecution relied in its investigations on the testimonies of the coast guards, the suspects' confessions, technical reports and a video footage of the arrest operation in the sea.
