Illegally caught young fish seized

TDT | Manama

A total of 85kg of young fish has been confiscated and a number of violations relating to their illegal fishing and sale have been registered, it emerged yesterday. This follows the inspection campaigns of a team from the Marine Control Department of the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning’s Agriculture and Marine Resources Agency.

The inspections were done in a number of fishing ports, central markets and fish shops, in which the young fish were seized. The department said in a statement that fishing for young fish is considered a violation of government regulations on fishing, and that it goes against the protection of marine wealth.

A call has therefore gone out to fishermen to abide by the laws issued in this regard, in order to preserve fish stocks and protect the Kingdom’s marine life. The department stressed that preserving marine wealth requires the cooperation of fishermen and the public, noting at the same time the need to adhere to all fishing regulations.
