Importance of caring for senior citizens stressed

Bahrain is planning to increase the number of day care organisations for senior citizens from 14 centers to 20, it has emerged. This was claimed by Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, as he affirmed that it is the government’s responsibility to provide care for parents and seniors.
The Labour Minister said this as he participated in an international webinar organised by Dar Al Muharraq Parents Care and Ijlal center for elderly services. Held under the slogan “Repaying to Parents”, the webinar discussed practices related to senior citizens’ care.
It aimed to exchange experiences on the various services that can be provided for seniors, and it also included specialised lectures prepared by participants from several Arab countries. The Labour Minister referred to the title of senior citizen, as it was launched by His Majesty the King’s Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs representative, National Security Advisor and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Affairs chairman His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to confirm respect and appreciation that this category has, calling on Arab countries to adopt the standardisation of the title that benefits the elderly. The participants praised Bahrain’s initiatives and programmes to support seniors, and its positive role throughout the path of service and society development.
