COVID-19 patient sentenced, fined for exposing doctors to infection

TDT | Manama

The Lower Criminal Court sentenced yesterday a coronavirus (COVID-19) patient to three years behind bars and fined BD1,000 for exposing doctors to infection, thus risking their lives. This is in relation to an incident reported by the Ministry of Health about the patient, who was called back to a COVID-19 testing centre after his initial test came out positive.

During his visit, however, he removed his face mask and deliberately coughed in front of the medical staff who were attending him. Moreover, according to the Health Ministry, the defendant intentionally skimmed his saliva on his hands and touched the doctors in an effort to infect them with COVID-19. The Public Prosecution interrogated the defendant and ordered he be remanded in custody and referred to the court, which issued the threeyear sentence along with the fine.
