Vaccine trials in Bahrain set

Minister of Health Faeqa bint Saeed Al Saleh received yesterday a UAE medical delegation to discuss cooperation between Bahrain and the Emirates, through Abu Dhabi-based company Group 42, on the start of the third phase of clinical trials in Bahrain on a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine.
The visiting delegation was comprised of COVID-19 Clinical Management Committee head Dr Nawal Al Ka’abi from Sheikh Khalifa Medical City in Abu Dhabi, UAE Research Group director Dr Walid Zaher, and a visiting Chinese team led by the China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) biology department head.
The meeting was also attended by the Health Ministry’s public health assistant undersecretary Dr Meriam Al Hejeri. The Health Minister commended distinguished cooperation between Bahrain and the UAE, mainly in the research field, in exchanging expertise and applying advanced technologies to conduct coronavirus detection examinations.
She affirmed the need to continue developing strategic relations and joint cooperation amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. The visiting delegation praised Bahrain’s handling of the virus outbreak and expressed keenness on achieving fruitful results during the third phase of the clinical trials of their coronavirus vaccine in Bahrain. Discussions also focused on the UAE’s experience in clinical tests and ways of availing them.
