Foreign Affairs assistant minister Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri met yesterday through video conference with the UN Development Programme (UNDP)’s resident representative to Bahrain Stefano Pettinato. The meeting was in the presence of the Human Rights Directorate minister plenipotentiary Mohammed Rashed Al Suwaidi, and the Resident Coordinator Office team leader John Fahy.

During the meeting, the assistant foreign minister discussed ways of developing bilateral cooperation and strategic partnership between the Kingdom and UN agencies to support development and humanitarian efforts in Bahrain and achieve desired goals.

He also lauded the role of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, highlighting the importance of cooperation and joint action in issues that would promote substantive and technical cooperation and exchange of experiences in all areas of human rights.

Pettinato expressed his pride in the continuous progress of the current partnership between Bahrain and the UN and its different agencies, stressing the readiness of the UNDP’s office to the Kingdom to develop relations and joint coordination, and to help in preparing the national plan for human rights. Bahrain has started wide consultations to develop a concept for preparing a national plan for human rights in the Kingdom, in accordance with a number of basic objectives that it seeks to achieve.
