The National Oil and Gas Authority (NOGA) and the Arabian Gulf University announced signing a deal for studying the impact of climate change on water resources in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Oil Minister, Shaikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, on behalf of NOGA and Dr Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al-Ohali, President of the Arabian Gulf University, signed the deal.

“Preserving water resources will help reduce the desalination process which would contribute significantly to reducing the consumption of natural gas,” said Shaikh Mohammed following the deal signing. In this regard, the minister highlighted NOGA’s project with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), being implemented with the United Nations Environment Programme and a wide range of ministries, under the umbrella of the Water Resources Council headed by Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Deputy Prime Minister.

The project focuses on modelling the impacts of climate change on freshwater resources in Bahrain, comprehensive scrutiny of water management and use in Bahrain, rainwater harvesting, taking advantage of greywater, creating a climate and water platform that serves all sectors and government institutions in the Kingdom. Dr Al-Ohali thanked NOGA for its confidence in the university’s expertise and its advisory services.
