The High Criminal Court yesterday sentenced three men to 10 years of imprisonment each for crimes related to manufacturing and storing explosives. According to court files, two of the defendants were convicted for possessing and manufacturing explosive devices and Molotov cocktails, in cooperation with other unknown individuals, throughout the years 2014 and 2015, with the intent of carrying out terrorist activities and destabilising public security.
The third defendant was convicted of training one of his co-defendants on the use and manufacturing of explosives, with the purpose of carrying out terrorist attacks here. The trio were arrested when security forces discovered a warehouse, in which weapons, Molotov cocktails, explosives and other hazardous materials were hidden.
Police raided the location in East Eker village in the outskirts of the Capital Governorate and confiscated the weapons. Before leaving the village, police investigated a bombing incident that occurred near the village’s graveyard. Intensified investigations led to the identification and arrest of the trio, who were responsible for several terrorist explosions and used the warehouse to store the weapons and materials used in manufacturing explosives.
