Gatherings should be avoided to ensure safety, physician says

Manama

Social distancing is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to avoid virus infection, a family physician has said. When applied properly, social distancing will prevent the virus from spreading and will accelerate its elimination, Dr. Reem Al Saffar said as she lauded Bahrain’s steady efforts to mitigate COVID-19.

Social distancing means maintaining a safe distance between people to help limit the spread of the virus and reduce the risk of infection, she added. Maintaining social distancing is important, even if the person is not infected, as it is a precautionary measure intended to stay away from possible infection as much as possible, so that the chances for infection and for the spread of the coronavirus decrease further, she said.

“It is imperative that we implement social distancing even at home, and this means preventing family visits and gatherings, so that the presence of individuals in the house is limited to the family members,” she said.

“It also means not celebrating any personal occasions that require gatherings at home. Family members inside the home must follow preventive methods of washing hands and not sharing personal tools, especially if there are old people, or people with chronic diseases or children in the house.”
