COVID-19 battle has no room for laxity, SMC’s Dr Rajab warns

There is no room for “laxity and complacency” in the battle against coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, warned SMC’s Dr Jehad bin Rajab. The Emergency Medicine (EM) Consultant of Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) underlined that the virus transmission chain could be broken only by adhering fully to the “precautionary measures” as mandated by the National Taskforce.
“The current stage requires all to continue adhering resolutely to all instructions and controls set by the national medical team,” he said. The doctor also expressed his concerns about the spread of the virus in light of the Ashoora season. “Gatherings”, Dr Rajab said, strengthens the virus transmission chain, especially as some of the infected are “asymptomatic.”
Dr Rajab called for live streaming of Ashura rituals and to restrict participation to ensure the safety of all. He also called on people in charge of community centres to comply strictly with virus prevention protocols.
All should “reduce family visits and avoid going out unless it’s necessary.” Dr Rajab also urged all to practice social distancing, wear masks, wash hands and disinfect surfaces regularly to reduce the spread. The doctor urged the public to report any suspected cases on hotline 444.
