Bahrain customs foils attempt to smuggle marijuana
A large quantity of marijuana and 505 narcotic pills stuffed inside motorcycle spare parts were seized by the Interior Ministry officials, authorities have revealed. Ministry officials at the airport foiled an attempt to smuggle large amount of narcotics from an Asian country. The drugs were stuffed inside motorcycle parts and were shipped using an international logistics company.
When the parts went through the X-ray device, custom officials grew suspicious. Details of the attempt of smuggling were released by the ministry on Youtube. The video uploaded by the ministry as part of its 'Al Amn' programme shows officials opening the spare parts which was shaped as a pipe.
"Shipment arrived in Bahrain from an Asian country and a Customs officer grew suspicious when it was sent through the X-ray device. The officer asked the shift supervisor to confirm his suspicions and when the shipment was once again passed through the X-ray device, some cavities were noticed at different angles. Suspicions about the shipments then grew further. The shift supervisor ordered the opening of some sample to check the cavities. The authorities concerned were asked to seize the items and take legal action," a senior official said in the video. "Anyone who imports, exports, produces or manufactures narcotics for trade through unlawful means faces capital punishment, life imprisonment or fine of between BD5,000 and BD50,000" the ministry stated.
