50,323 recoveries, 3,577 cases, 195 deaths

Bahrain’s Ministry of Health announced five COVID-19 related deaths yesterday, after reporting zero deaths a day before. Three Bahraini men aged 58, 71 and 67 years and two expatriate men aged 50 and 43 years are the latest casualties. Ministry reported the deaths separately on its twitter account. Officials tweeted condolences to the family of the deceased.

There are currently 80 COVID-19 patients in the Kingdom receiving treatment at various facilities, out of which 33 patients are undergoing critical care. The total number of active cases in the Kingdom has touched 3,577, of which 3,544 patients are in a stable health condition. The ministry yesterday announced carrying out 11,711 COVID-19 tests to detect 662 new cases.

Newly detected cases include 100 expatriate workers, 557 contacts of active cases, and five travel-related cases. New 310 recoveries were also announced yesterday, raising the total number of people cured of their infection in the Kingdom to 50,323.

New cases decline Bahrain’s ministry of health has detected a decline in the average number of new cases/ day while concerns continue to linger on the people contracting the virus through negligence in following precautionary measures. Health Ministry’s contract tracing page tells that a 40-yearold Bahraini woman contracted the virus after coming in contact with another at a private rented swimming pool.

This incident resulted in 15 others contracting the virus within a family of four children, their brother, three sisters and their children. Fourteen of the cases had direct contact with the index case, whereas there was only one secondary infection case. In total, the incident affected 12 different households, highlighting the need to follows coronavirus precautionary measures without any compromise.

51 people, 22 households Last week, in about four cases, the ministry said 51 people contracted the virus, which affected 22 households. In one of the cases, a six-yearold Bahraini boy, who tested positive, after developing symptoms, was linked to 18 others in the family, who were all tested positive.

The boy’s father, grandfather, uncles, aunt and cousins, 11 of them below 10 years of age, tested positive. In another instance, a 36-yearold Bahrain man, who turned positive through contact tracing, was linked to 13 positive cases from six different households. The man’s two daughters and relatives were also infected.

Family members visiting each other’s houses, defying ministry’s directions to avoid such activities, resulted in 11 of the members contracting the virus. In yet another case, last week, a 50-year-old female citizen who turned positive to the virus after developing symptoms was linked to 20 more having the virus from 13 different households.

Twelve of the infected people had direct contact with the index patient, whereas the remaining eight cases were a secondary infection. Those contracted the virus included immediate and extended family members, as well as neighbours.

The National Medical team, which conducts random screening, using mobile laboratory at various areas in the Kingdom in one such outing last week found that a 46-year-old expatriate man, who tested positive, was linked to 10 other positive cases. All of them were working in the same company.

Three of the infected patients had direct contact with the index patient, whereas the remaining people contracted the virus by coming in direct contact with positive cases. Total cases last week Between 27 August and 02 September, there were 2,414 confirmed coronavirus cases, of which 1,619 were Bahrainis, and 795 were expatriate citizens.

The average number of case per day last week was 349, which has declined to 344.8 per day, this week, said the ministry’s contact tracing data. A total of 918 people contracted the virus after getting in close contact with infected people, while 524 people came out positive after developing symptoms. The ministry’s random community testing resulted in detecting 824 cases, while 127 tested positive after completing the quarantine period.
