Muggers get jail for robbing man of 15 BD

Two men arrested in connection with assaulting and robbing BD15 from a man have been handed down a one-year jail term. The First High Criminal Court also ordered a suspension on the execution of the verdict for three years. The incident took place last June, when the accused, came in a motorcycle, assaulted the man, an Asian national, and decamped with his money.
The victim, was on his way back home from work when the attackers deliberately rammed their motorcycle into him. Court files say, the attackers then beat the man, snatched his wallet, the 15 BD he had in it, as well as his mobile phone before fleeing. Police said they opened an investigation soon after the incident resulting in the identification and arrest of the suspects.
Legal formalities were then completed to refer them to public prosecution. The prosecution accused the defendants of robbing the victim after attacking him. One of the defendants was charged with damaging the victim’s phone. Both men confessed to their crime before the court.
