TDT | Manama

A total of 17 million Bahraini Dinars will be transferred directly to the accounts of citizens eligible to receive cash subsidies this Tuesday, said Labour minister. The amount will cover social security, financial support (cost allowance), disability allowance, as well as housing allowance (rent allowance) paid by the Ministry of Housing.

High-cost allowance According to Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel Humaidan, on Tuesday, 124,598 Bahraini families will receive a total of BD 9,485,000 as compensation allowance to meet Bahrain’s high cost of living. Social security The BD 1,597,000 earmarked for Social security allowance will benefit 16,784 families and individuals.

The 1,228,000 Bahrain dinars set aside for paying disability allowance will reach the accounts of 12,267 beneficiaries. The housing allowance of 4, 549,000 dinars paid by the Ministry of housing will benefit 45,939 people. The government is paying the meat subsidy compensation, once every three months, with the last payment being on July 15.

The next payment for October, November, and December is on October 15. Unification of subsidy disbursement date follows the directives of HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister. As of now, five programmes under the Ministry of Labour and Social Development and the Ministry of Housing have a unified payment date.

HRH CP excluded allowance to improve the standard of living from this and is paid on a different date. Unified payments reach the accounts of beneficiaries on the 15th of every month, since 15 February 2020. Jameel Humaidan said the unification of subsidy disbursement date would increase the citizens’ benefits, as the sums of all programmes would enable them to meet the needs of their families.

The programme in the second phase will have a centralised database, including information provided by all government subsidy programmes. Humaidan said the delivery of direct subsidies will continue for all those registered in the lists of various programmes. Details of the payment are available on the e-Government Portal (bahrain.bh) or through National Call Centre on 80008001.

The ministry, he said, has implemented electronic services since the last March to disburse subsidies based on procedures recommended by the National Medical Team to limit the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
