A wild, dangerous ride!

Legal procedures were taken against a 20-year-old female driver yesterday, less than a day after a video circulated of her recklessly driving on the highway with a woman precariously sitting in the half-opened trunk of her car. The video went viral online and stirred public outrage, as the car was seen traveling on the fast lane, allegedly on Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway, commonly known as the Hidd Bridge.

The woman in the trunk was said to be the driver’s housemaid. She was seen holding onto a big box while her feet dangled dangerously from her position in the car’s boot. Quoting the General Directorate of Traffic, the Interior Ministry said in a tweet that the female driver was aged 20.

The traffic directorate affirmed that her vehicle was impounded, and also confirmed that legal procedures have been taken against her. The ministry shared a picture of the impounded car and said that the matter is being referred to the Public Prosecution.

No other details about the people involved in the case were released. Online outrage Members of the public voiced their concern about the driver’s treatment of her housemaid and for putting her in such a dangerous position. Some said that the incident is comparable to abuse and expressed their sympathy for the maid while criticizing the driver and commending the authorities for their swift action.
