The imprisonment of a defendant who encroached on the Divine Self and spreading atheistic ideas on social media

MANAMA

Nasser Al-Shayeb, Chief Prosecutor stated that the Public Prosecution had received a notification from the Anti-Cyber Crime Department monitoring an account on the Twitter social networking site in which its owner had posted tweets containing an infringement of the Islamic religion and contempt of its rituals, and the prosecution began an investigation into the incident upon receiving that report. The tweets posted on that account showing that they included encroachment on the divine self, the Islamic religion and the Noble Qur’an, and insulting to the symbols of the religion, and pictures bearing the same aspects of infringement, including a picture of the cover of the Holy Qur’an in a way that makes fun of it and what it contains the noble verses, as well as a denial of the constants and known from the religion.

Accordingly, the prosecution interrogated the defendant, the owner of the account, who confessed to what was attributed to her of assaulting religions and the Islamic religion, insulting his rituals and writings and insulting its symbols, and that she used to spread her atheistic ideas in this way in order to share those ideas with others.
The Public Prosecution office ordered the defendant's remand pending the case and sent her to an urgent trial.

While the Chief Public Prosecutor affirmed that the Public Prosecution, in its capacity as the representative of society in the matter of the criminal case, stresses respect for its religion and belief, indicating that undermining its sanctities by ridicule and sarcasm does not fall under the concept of freedom of opinion and expression, rather it is an infringement of the right of others to believe and an infringement of its values and constants. From this point of view, the Public Prosecution office holds criminal responsibility for the accused and everyone who comes to her abilities with such sinful practices.
