Bahrain statement delivered at IAEA conference

Ministry of Foreign Affairs undersecretary and National Committee on the Prohibition of the Development, Production, Stockpiling and Use of Chemical Weapons and their Destruction chairperson Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa delivered virtually yesterday Bahrain’s message at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference in its 64th session, being held in Vienna until Friday.

Dr. Shaikha Rana thanked the IAEA and its director-general for their support in facing the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and congratulated the sisterly UAE for its inauguration of the first nuclear reactor for peaceful energy in the Arab world.

She stressed the Kingdom’s interest in technical cooperation activities since its accession to the IAEA, as its technical cooperation program for the years 2020- 2021 aims to strengthen the infrastructure for radiation safety and nuclear security, through the development of a legal system and the preparation of specialized inspectors, within the framework of a carefully prepared national project.

Dr. Shaikha Rana also talked about other important topics and expressed appreciation for the existing cooperation between Bahrain and the IAEA and member states in order to achieve the noble goals for which the agency was established to serve all humanity
