Home quarantine violator faces trial

TDT | Manama

The Minor Criminal Court will begin the trial of a woman who violated home quarantine procedures and infected six people with the coronavirus (COVID-19), it was confirmed yesterday. This came in an announcement issued by the Public Prosecution, confirming that the trial of the woman will begin on September 29.

In the announcement, chief prosecutor Adnan Al Wedaei explained that the case was initially formed when the Public Health Directorate at the Ministry of Health informed the Public Prosecution about the woman’s violation of home quarantine procedures to curb the spread of the virus, and that she had come into contact with individuals who tested positive for COVID-19.

Al Wedaei said it was proven to the directorate that the woman left her home and attended a family gathering, after which she felt symptomatic. He added that contact-tracing showed that she had infected six people from the gathering that she attended.

“The Public Prosecution began its procedures as soon as the report was received, and ordered that the accused be referred to criminal trial,” Al Wedaei said. “The prescribed punishment for this crime is imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to BD10,000. The session is scheduled for September 29, 2020, to hear the case before the Minor Criminal Court.”
