Tender launched for soil-less farming project

Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf started the implementation of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s Initiative for Food Security by launching a tender to establish two soil-less farming project in Diraz and Hurat A’ali areas.
The minister said the project’s financial preparations have been completed for 36 months, including its operation period for two years for the two areas of 18,000 square meters in Diraz and 24,000 square meters in Hurat A’ali. Agriculture and Marine Resources Undersecretary Dr. Nabeel Mohammed Abu Al Fateh said the project aims to support Bahraini youth to work in the field of agricultural production and adopt innovative technologies for sustainable production.
He explained that the project consists of six sites distributed over the four governorates, noting that the two projects in Diraz and Hurat Aali are the first phases of the project and that the local vegetable production is expected to increase by 20% when all phases are launched.
