Warmer days make people happier

TDT | Manama

With the weather gradually improving this month, especially in the evening, people in Bahrain are starting to hang around, explore various places, and enjoy other outdoor activities despite the risks of the coronavirus (COVID-19) still very much around. Bahrain weather in October is generally fine but still hot with temperature continuing to be 32 degrees Celcius and the minimum reaching 29°C.

And as it almost never rains in Bahrain during this month, the warm weather is expected to continue over the next few days before fresh cold air and windy days roll around until the first half of April next year. But, still, everyone’s mood is getting better now.

The third week of the month the hot days of summer will be “officially” behind us, but these days people in Bahrain are already taking advantage of the great weather. They are enjoying the outdoors and experiencing the fun despite the constant threat of contracting or spreading COVID-19 still looming over us.

Enjoying a warm summer temperature is good for people of all ages, for instance, settling into a comfortable daytime or evening routine with park visits and regular walks and jogs around main roads. All these are happening despite social distancing measures preventing many from exercising normally inside gyms or doing various recreational activities; restriction of movements and gatherings in parks and other public places; and preventing eating food inside restaurants so far.

All because of the more than an eight-month-old pandemic. The Daily Tribune toured different places and witnessed Bahrainis and expatriates enjoy walking and jogging, having a picnic at a park, and doing some other outdoor activities. Experts recommend walking for at least an hour a day, in order to ensure the health of the body and keep it active and free from diseases.

Walking is good for the health of the heart, arteries and lungs, as it helps increase blood circulation activity, resulting from burning oxygen, and this leads to strengthening the muscles of the body and the circulatory system. Walking also helps calm the frayed nerves of a person, relieve the stress of daily life, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as lose weight.

For the record In November last year, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications’ Meteorological Directorate reported in their monthly weather summary that the month of October 2019 went on record as the hottest ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902. Hot and humid weather dominated the Kingdom during the month of October due to the moist easterly winds.

The mean temperature of the month was 32.1°C which is 2.9°C above the long-term normal for October and this goes on record as the highest mean temperatures for the month of October since 1902. The old record was 31.7°C in October 2015.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 35.9°C which is 2.8°C above the longterm normal and this goes on record as the highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of October since 1946. The old record was 35.6°C in October 2006.

The highest temperature recorded during the month was 42.3°C which occurred on the 1st October at Bahrain International Airport and this goes on as the second-highest maximum temperature for the month of October since 1946 at Bahrain International Airport.
