Derasat appoints new executive director

Dr Hamad Ebrahim Abdullah has been appointed executive director of the Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat). He takes over from Katadah Abdul Hameed Zaman. Derasat Board of Trustees chairman Dr Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa received the outgoing and new executive directors and praised Zaman’s achievements during his tenure, and the milestones he achieved with notable publications and quality events, wishing him success.
Zaman expressed his profound gratitude for the continuous support provided by the chairman of Trustees during his tenure with Derasat, saying the support was a factor that helped him meet his obligations in one of the region’s most prominent research centers.
Derasat’s chairman also congratulated Dr Hamad on his appointment and assured him of his full support to continue reinforcing the center’s advanced position and merit-based role locally and globally. Dr Shaikh Abdullah praised the new executive director’s professional and personal qualities as well as his promising competence in developing Derasat’s creative and innovative work environment and fulfilling its mission in line with HM the King’s reform approach and Bahrain’s 2030 Economic Vision.
Dr Hamad expressed his gratitude to the Board of Trustees for entrusting him with this responsibility, supporting him in joining the center’s team, and enabling him to contribute to this pioneering research institute and international center of excellence. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of East Anglia, UK, since 2016. He was until recently a Professor of Modern and Contemporary History in the Department of Social Sciences at the College of Arts, University of Bahrain.
