60 new and improved textbooks this year: Minister

This academic year students and teachers in Bahrain will receive 60 new and developed textbooks, practical manuals and guides for all academic levels, said Education minister, Dr Majid Al Nuami.


The new books also include Arabic language books for first-grade primary school students, which adopts new learning methods.
The focus is on developing reading skills, love for nature and social values in students of various grades, the minister said.
The package includes a new series in English by the National Geographic Foundation, to be gradually introduced. The series focuses on the skills of 21 century, discovery, innovation and promoting values of global citizenship. It also includes a reading programme to enrich students’ linguistic and literary capabilities.


Arabic language books in the second-semester focus on “Literature and Civilization in the Abbasid and Andalusian Era,” the minister said.


There are new books on citizenship and human rights education for the twelfth-grade, first, secondary and sixth-grade students.
Books on Islamic education focuses on three academic stages, while that on family rules in Islam deals with Islamic law, the rights guaranteed in Bahrain for women, and children. The new books also focus on social behaviour in Islam.


New books are there in Science, technical subjects, and Information and Communication, the Minister said, for all elementary school grades.


The ministry has also developed a set of commercial science books focusing on the new technological developments and labour market needs which covers accounting, labour laws, banking and business.


Books also focus on physical education. Athletics guide, books on badminton, physical education curriculum document, basics of sewing, music education are some of the newly developed books.


The second semester, the Minister said, will also witness the introduction of media courses for building awareness among students and help them develop analytical capabilities and constructive criticism.
