The Interior Ministry has praised the spirit of co-operation among heads of ma’atams or community centres and their commitment to follow precautionary measures by banning gatherings and mourning processions during the 40th anniversary of Ashoora.
They also agreed to mark the event through online broadcast on social media and avoiding home gatherings to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
The Ministry announced that legal steps will be taken against violators as part of the intensified campaign to protect public health and assure the safety of the public.
Earlier, the Jaffary Endowments Directorate, in a statement, had announced the ban on gatherings while marking the occasion. The Health Ministry has reported a remarkable increase in infections among children and women and a rise in fatalities from COVID-19.
