Upgrading strategies and technologies in space science

The National Space Science Agency (NSSA) has participated in the fifth Global Aerospace Summit in Abu Dhabi, as part of the agency’s keenness to enhance its endeavours to keep up with the latest strategies, developments, trends and technologies used by international agencies and employ them to meet national requirements.

The National Space Science (NSSA) was established by Royal Decree 11/2014, with a vision “to promote Bahrain to a position of international prominence in the field of space science for the purpose of achieving comprehensive and sustainable development”. NASA's mission is “to device comprehensive programmes to embrace and develop activities related to space science, researches, and related studies.

” The summit is considered a strategic and exclusive gathering of 1,000 leaders from the global aviation, space and defense industries and 150 decision-makers in the industry who come together to lead strategic vision and promote partnerships in the global aviation and space sector.

The list of the participants included the United Arab Emirates Space Agency (UAESA), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Italian Space Agency (ISA), The Space Command (France), The National Space Academy (UK), the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), Thuraya Telecommunications and a number of international companies such as Glavkosmos, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Virgin Galactic, Raytheon Company and other institutions in the space sector.

The two-day summit featured events related to enabling data, digital transformation and development in technologies related to the space sector to identify new opportunities and overcome challenges.

Chief of Strategic Planning and Projects Management Department (NSSA) Amal Albinali said that the NSSA is keen to benefit from international expertise to enhance the efficiency and skills of its members and to upgrade the services it provides to the governmental and private sectors.

She explained that the summit dealt with important strategies such as enabling sustainable development goals issued by the United Nations (UN SDGs) and enhancing national security. It also reviewed the experiences of Arab countries and the implementation of their national space programmes and the latest projects.

Laws and legislation related to the space field as well as the partnerships that were recently concluded and the latest developments in the field of technology employment within space science applications were also discussed.
