Bahrain-UNHCR deal signed to support refugees and asylum seekers

Bahrain and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have reached an important agreement to provide aid and support to refugees and asylum seekers in the Middle East. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani and UNHCR representative Khaled Khalifa, through video call, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the government of the Kingdom and the UNHCR regarding the exchange of information on refugees and asylum seekers.
The signing was attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs Undersecretary Dr Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa. The Foreign Minister hailed the co-operation between the Kingdom and the UN and its specialised agencies in achieving the goals of the international organization, noting the support provided by the UN to the projects and programmes implemented by Bahrain, especially in the field of achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
He also commended the signing of the MoU between Bahrain and UNHCR on exchanging information for refugees and asylum seekers in a way that serves the goals of both sides to provide aid and support to refugees in the countries of the Middle East region. Khalifa expressed his appreciation for the strategic partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN, its offices and specialised agencies, which extend for several years.
He noted that signing of this MoU is a clear evidence of the positive co-operation between the Foreign Ministry and the High Commissioner, which will contribute to promoting the Commissioner’s efforts in providing aid and support to the refugees in the region .
