Working mothers need 'more care and understanding' : Bahrain MP

TDT | Manama

A Bahrain MP yesterday called for “more understanding” of working mothers’ predicament and to assist them in teaching their children by granting them more flexibility and allow more of them to work from home.

In a statement, MP Ebrahim Al Nefaei said that he has recently received several calls from working mothers who are worried on how to balance their duties at work and at home, especially now that virtual classes at public schools have started. He commended the efforts exerted by the Education Ministry to make this new experiment of virtual learning a success. However, Al Nefaei pointed out that the inability of working mothers to supervise their children’s education in the morning period “has negative impacts on students and their desired academic achievement.”

“The situation is difficult, especially that each class lasts approximately for 50 minutes, while the mother is absent,” the MP commented.

“The educational process can only be completed with more sacrifice by parents and by staying with their children and not being distracted from them. This confirms the importance of caring for working mothers and enabling them to work from home as much as possible, until the end of the pandemic.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry mentioned in a press statement issued yesterday on the occasion of the beginning of the academic year, that all classes will be repeated in the evening for those who are unavailable in the morning.

Quoting the assistant undersecretary for curricula and educational supervision at the Ministry, Ahlam Al Aamer, the statement read: “The televised lessons will start today, Sunday, in the morning period, which starts at 9 am, and then it will be repeated in the evening from 3 pm. Classes for basic and secondary education stages will be broadcast at 10 am and is repeated at 4 pm.”
