I nternational co-operation and active participation are the only and best way to achieve lasting prosperity in the world. This was the message of Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani as he took part in the Arab-Brazilian Economic Forum which was held via visual electronic communication. In the face of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the Minister said the world must now realise that genuine prosperity can only be achieved if it is based on common interest and interdependence. And while countries seek to overcome the repercussions of this health crisis, trade and economic co-operation will play an importance role as the main engine for global recovery, growth and a bright future.
The event was held under the auspices and presence of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, with the participation of delegations from the Arab League and Arab Chambers of Commerce, and a number of experts and businessmen from both sides. Dr Al Zayani delivered a speech in which he expressed his deep appreciation to the Brazilian leader for organising this important economic forum to strengthen co-operation between Arab countries and Brazil amidst the pandemic.
The Minister affirmed that the COVID-19 has changed many concepts and beliefs, and left many economic, social and cultural impacts. He stressed that the world is indeed a small village, but the economic impact of the pandemic, and the extraordinary measures taken by all countries to contain the virus and eliminate it to preserve people’s health and safety will be tangible for many years to come. Dr Al Zayani said that “dialogue, co-operation and participation” have always been among the basic principles based on the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. “The trust between peoples and constructive co-operation between them.
These principles continue to define how we dealt with various major issues, the latest of which is the signing of the historic declaration to support peace between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Israel, which led to the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and the signing of agreements for joint co-operation yesterday,” said the Minister. “Bahrain is confident that it has taken the first step towards a new reality for the Middle East, based on co-operation and not confrontation, and on merging together, not hostility; on peace, harmony and coexistence, which gives new impetus towards resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict that has ravaged the region.” The Minister stressed that for many decades, it opens the door to joint efforts to achieve peace, stability and prosperity for all peoples in the region.
He said this ambitious approach would provide new opportunities to increase activity and trade exchanges among the countries of the region. Further, the Minister affirmed his confidence that Arab and Brazilian companies will be at the forefront of those willing and eager to seize these opportunities provided by the atmosphere of peace and stability.
