The Chinese Embassy in Bahrain has condemned the remarks made by US Undersecretary for Economic Growth, Energy Keith Krach during his visit to the Kingdom “discrediting” Huawei and 5G developments in China. In a strongly worded statement, the embassy spokesman said the US official had resorted to “bullying” by launching a global campaign against a private Chinese company without any solid evidence to back his claims. The US goal is to keep its monopoly in science and technology while denying other countries the legitimate right to development, the statement noted.

“It doesn’t even bother to disguise its bullying. This not only violates the international rules of fair trade but also hurts the free global market environment,” the statement said. On Saturday, Krach made remarks on the news briefing held by the US Embassy in Bahrain particularly attacking China’s Huawei 5G technology.

The US also made an uproar to build a coalition of “clean countries” which the embassy deemed would only sow dissension and downplay co-operation between China and Bahrain. “The US conduct wire-tapping and mass surveillance around the globe, and these wrongful acts are already an open secret. The US is not qualified to build a coalition of ‘clean countries’,” the statement said. “Distortion, defamation or politically suppression of companies who are front-runners in 5G technology are despicable actions and, instead of gaining an advantage or winning respect.”

The embassy emphasised that Huawei provides network services to more than three billion people in over 170 countries and regions, of which no country, organisation, company or individual has come up with concrete evidence that its products pose any security threat.
Moreover, Huawei is the first company that has publicly pledged its readiness to sign a “no-back door” agreement and the only company that has accepted tests and supervision by a third party. Since establishment in Bahrain, Huawei has made great efforts to promote the development on information and telecommunication of the Kingdom, improve economic competition, fulfil the social responsibility, and make great contributions for the economic development and promote bilateral trade co-operation.

“Huawei has achieved a favourable reputation and won praise from the Bahraini government and people. All these are indisputable facts,” the statement stressed.

China will continue to work with all countries to maintain a fair, just, open and non-discriminatory business environment, promote international exchanges and cooperation in science and technology, and ensure that safe, reliable and quality information technology will boost global economic recovery and help improve people’s lives around the world.

“We hope that the US will give up its obsession with its narrow self-interest, and return to the right track of openness and co-operation,” the statement said.
