A team of doctors at the King Hamad University Hospital removed a cancerous tumour weighing six kilograms from the ovaries of a female patient.

Medics from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology headed by consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist Professor Mahmoud Sami performed the successful surgery.

The woman, in her 60s, was admitted in the hospital with gastrointestinal complaints and an enlarged stomach due to the tumour. This apparently caused pressure on her uterus, which led to the complete descent of the organ outside the body.

Following medical examinations, doctors concluded that the tumour was cancerous, and the surgery to remove the tumour was performed.

The patient was discharged from the hospital after recovery and her chemotherapy treatment continues at their oncology department, officials said.
