A Bahraini woman has filed a complaint against a health centre here alleging it of medical negligence, which caused her to miscarry at the eighth month of her pregnancy. The woman supposedly also suffered physical deformation after the condition forced her to undergo several surgeries. The painful episode began when she approached the health centre complaining of body pain.

It is alleged that though a staff took her into the emergency room meant for pregnant women, they failed to do any diagnosis or examination. A physician met her in the evening, several hours later. She was told that she was only suffering from exhaustion and prescribed few drugs. The pain however became intense, eventually leading to vomiting and her left shoulder became swollen.

Doctors later diagnosed her of being infected that caused the shoulder inflammation, blood poisoning eventually killing her unborn baby. The woman was subjected to several life-saving surgeries later to remove the dead fetus.

Top authorities are now investigating the woman’s complaint and her husband’s testimony has also been recorded. She was also subject to a detailed examination to determine the extent of the physical injuries. The Public Prosecution has also delegated a committee that deals with medical negligence to probe the matter.

The latest case on medical negligence in Bahrain was the shocking death of twin babies at the Salmaniya Medical Complex. The infants, SMC doctors adjudged dead, were found alive by their father at the time of their burial.
A probe is currently ongoing into this incident.
A last weekly Cabinet session chaired by HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister reviewed measures taken to produce the final report on that investigation.
